The Everly Brothers - A Date With The Everly Brothers (1960)

When I think stereotypical early rock 'n roll it sounds exactly like The Everly Brothers. This album is packed with every cliche of rock from the 50s and 60s. It's proving to be quite the challenge to review, since there's nothing really wrong with it. If you know what rock 'n roll is "supposed" to sound like then you know what A Date With The Everly Brothers sounds like. The Everly Brothers do have a nice harmony duet together but it's not particularly innovative. It feels like every song is about finding love or some girl the brothers fancy. I know rock 'n roll didn't have such a good reputation with the older generation when this album was released, but today this is so absurdly tame and sugary. It's almost like The Everly Brothers produced this album to convince parents to let them date their daughters.

Well, it's a sweet album that never really builds to anything and is over really quick. Unless you like this really dated form of rock I can't imagine you listening to it all the way through. Meh, 2 stars.
