Alice Cooper - School's Out (1972)

(originally posted on Facebook)

A lot of what I said for Big Star applies here as well. Alice Cooper's sound probably just wouldn't work out in the modern era of crisp, clean, digital music. Unlike Big Star, Alice Cooper is much more theatrical and genre busting. For instance, this is a heavy metal album, but there is a jazz song on here (and a pretty good one). Alice Cooper is kinda like the heavy metal version of David Bowie, which is inaccurate because at this point Alice Cooper was the name of the band and not the person (also because I can't be sure David Bowie didn't at one point release a heavy metal record). About the only thing I'm a bit annoyed about is the bass sound is a bit too consistent and hard. It doesn't really blend on most of the tracks. Still a really good listen. 4 stars.

I'm suddenly on a hot streak. 4 straight albums of 3 stars or better, and only 2 of my last 10 were 2 stars or less. Not surprising that most of those albums were made in 1976 or earlier. Music really was just better back then.
