Quasi-weekly Dave Answers Question On Quora- Special Trump Edition

This week I have a special long edition of Dave Answers Random Questions on Quora.com. I got into a tiff with some dude trying to own me regarding how accomplished Donald Trump has been as president. I'm not sure if said dude is the guy who asked the initial question or if he's just a Trump superfan that couldn't stand the effrontery of my original answer and had to set the record straight. Needless to say I don't think he succeeded, but you can decide for yourself below the fold.

When a girl says she just likes you as a friend and isn't looking for a relationship, what does that mean? -Friendzoned

Dear Mr. Zoned,

It means she likes you as a friend and is not looking for a relationship. It’s not secret girl-code for anything. Like if a boy said he liked you as a friend and was not interested in a relationship- it means the same thing as that.

Is Herbalife nutrition good or bad? -Hungry and Seeking (Food)

Dear Seeking,

First off Herbalife is a multi-level marketing company. The more nefarious name for this is “pyramid scheme.” That doesn’t automatically make them a bad company, but it’s typically a warning sign that their products are overpriced and their sales practices are dubious.

Why did my cheating ex say, “maybe in the future we can try again”?

-Amber Grinding, London

Dear Amber,

Some assholes can’t help themselves. This seems like a gaslighting gambit to try and convince you their cheating is somehow partly your fault. Don’t buy it, and never take them back.

How do I reject a guy who told me "I love you", in the sweetest way possible?

-It's Not Me, It's Him

Dear Not Me,

You’re wasting your time. If you plan to reject him just be honest. There really is no way to combine “I don’t love you” with not breaking his heart. If you try too hard you’ll just leave him with the thought that there’s a chance he could eventually win you over. Your suitor needs to know the honest truth no matter how harsh it is. Sometimes love results in heartbreak. That’s his problem to deal with, not yours.

Willie Colón & Rubén Blades - Siembra (1978)

I don't know anymore if I should look up the album before I listen to it or not. On the one hand it's nice to be surprised by what the album might have in store. I also don't want my preconceived notions about a genre to taint my listening experience. On the other hand if I don't know what the album is supposed to be, particularly if it's a genre I don't recognize, I won't be able to effectively comment on what the artist is trying to do.

Eh, whatever.

Elbow - The Seldom Seen Kid (2008)

Once again, I've taken several months off. And I hope that a band called Elbow that made an album in 2008 doesn't totally suck. We shall see.

WZLX and the 2017 Firecracker 400 (Random Rantings)

Every year around July 4th Boston's "Classic Rock" radio station plays a countdown of 400 songs, which they advertise as "the top Classic Rock songs" and are supposedly selected by the station's fans. I've never participated in the voting myself, but after the event I discovered the webpage where I could make my selection by entering my name plus the song and the artist. I don't know if there's any further filtering of the votes either through the radio station's producers (who in theory could veto any picks that didn't fit their ideal) or MAYBE by controlling for ballot-stuffers who might vote for the same song hundreds of times. In any case however it was ultimately constructed, the final listing is a decent selection of 400 generic "classic rock" tunes that play regularly on the US airwaves.

Crowded House - Woodface (1991)

Early 90s grungefest? Post-late 80s alternative dreariness? Proto-mid 90s alt-punk? The only thing I'm sure of going in, with a name that white, I'm guessing this is not a gangsta rap group.

Nitin Sawhney - Beyond Skin (1999)

Well, here I am trying to get back at it. It's been a few months since I really felt like doing anything with this project. In all honestly I lost any interest in hearing music I've never heard before. I felt like I had realized the answer to my initial question, "Is there anything else out there that's really missing from my life?" The answer is, "Yes, but I have to sift through a whole pile of shit to find it."

Ed Sheeran - In Which I Do Things To Myself Because I Worry My Hatred Might Be Irrational

I know I have anger issues. I know anger is not really the most productive or useful emotion and I should keep it in check. Yet whenever I see this fucking face...

...I can't help but want to punch it.

George Michael - Faith (1987)

I'm calling this the "George Michael Sniffs His Sweaty Armpit" album, because that's all I can think about when I see this cover. And yes, his armpit does have to be sweaty. That's a leather jacket, he has to be sweating under it. What were they going for in this photoshoot? I'm gonna have trouble listening to this album without the smell of B.O. on my mind. Since I already hated the first George Michael album I listened to that's not a good way to start.

Brian Eno - Another Green World (1975)

I wasn't too enamored with my introduction to Brian Eno, but that was a long time ago, and I've listened to a lot of shitty music. Plus David Bowie was a big fan of Brian Eno, so he must have done something right.
