M.I.A. - Arular (2005)
I'm not looking forward to more music by M.I.A. I'll admit she did some inventive things on Kala, but she was also very repetitive and obnoxiously loud. Why not just turn down the volume? I can hear you asking that very question. Unfortunately M.I.A. mixed the album in such a way that if I listened to it at a volume that didn't hurt my ears I couldn't hear half of what was going on in the songs. Arular came out 2 years before Kala so maybe M.I.A. wasn't so obnoxious in her younger years.

Beastie Boys - License To Ill (1986)
Not looking forward to listening to more Beastie Boys music, although I suppose it's possible in 1984 they hadn't yet developed into the sample monster they were on Paul's Boutique.

Leftfield - Leftism (1995)
Sigh... this is going to be a dance album, isn't it? I'm guessing that based on the year the album was released, the really neat cover art, which dance albums are known for 'round these parts, and the album being 70 minutes long and only 11 songs. Dance albums almost always work out to be obscenely long, because it's an easy trick for the "artist" to simply cut and paste and double the length of the "song". I'm used to being quickly outraged by these albums, usually in the first 10 seconds of pressing play. Here goes nothing...

The Chemical Brothers - Dig Your Own Hole (1997)
I know I've heard "Block Rockin' Beats" before, or at least a lick from it, in a commercial or a radio spot or something. But until now I've never associated it with The Chemical Brothers, probably because I've never heard of them. It's a cool lick. Granted I've only heard 30 seconds of the "song". My snap judgement? Holy shit, I'm about to really hate The Chemical Brothers.

Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique (1989)
Ah, (the) Beastie Boys. It doesn't take long for them to piss me off. Nothing like name-checking yourself, Mike Dee, to inform us you're busting rhymes and whatever. The first song sounds like every bit of melody, if you can call it that, is a sample of a potentially better song. In 1989, Paul's Boutique was considered revolutionary and a major turning point in music for it's heavy use of sampling. And I have to admit, as much as I hate sampling as a basis for producing music, the sound on this record is pretty impressive.

Daft Punk - Homework (1997)
Now here's an interesting album. You know who Daft Punk is, or at least you know that one song they played that got so huge it won them a Grammy for album of the year a couple years back. But this isn't that Daft Punk. This is the Daft Punk that existed a dozen years earlier in France before anyone in America cared. I think this is even before they started wearing robot costumes on stage. So back in the old days were they the same Euro-trash techno duo I know today? I really hope the answer is no.

The Prodigy - Music for the Jilted Generation (1994)
If I remember my The Prodigy correctly I'm about to hear 80 minutes of video game music. It's a shame such awesome cover art has to be wasted on this techno junk.

Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express (1977)
I can't see that artist's name and not think about "Burns Verkaufen der Kraftwerk". Please click that link, it will make you happy. If it doesn't... I will have never lost more faith in humanity. No amount of Fatboy Slim music could ever bring me as low and you hating on the Land of Chocolate could.

Fatboy Slim - Better Living Through Chemistry (1996)
Oh fuck me sideways. Why do I have to listen to more shit by Fatboy Slim? Why do I have to listen to any more albums put out by DJs? And why the fuck does a Fatboy Slim album have to be 70 minutes long? This is gonna hurt. I already know it. But I can't just skip it. I have to endure it.

The Allman Brothers Band - At Fillmore East (1971)
I'll get in trouble if I don't like this album. This is one of the most iconic live albums of all time by a band everyone seems to love. But I immediately know I'm in trouble when the running time is over and hour and the track list is only 7 songs. It makes me think of easily one of the worst albums I've heard thus far by fellow jam-band The Grateful Dead. Unlike The Grateful Dead I do like a fair amount of Allman Brothers music, so maybe this won't be so bad.

Orbital - Snivilisation (1994)
I'm loathe to review this album partly for reasons I'll get into later. For now, knowing nothing about what Orbital is I will say a band or artist who names an album something like Snivilisation attempting to be clever usually winds up making music that sounds like crap. Just a guess.
