M.I.A. - Arular (2005)

I'm not looking forward to more music by M.I.A. I'll admit she did some inventive things on Kala, but she was also very repetitive and obnoxiously loud. Why not just turn down the volume? I can hear you asking that very question. Unfortunately M.I.A. mixed the album in such a way that if I listened to it at a volume that didn't hurt my ears I couldn't hear half of what was going on in the songs. Arular came out 2 years before Kala so maybe M.I.A. wasn't so obnoxious in her younger years.

N.W.A - Straight Outta Compton (1988)

I am now about to witness the strength of street knowledge, brought to me by some guy who thought "Ice Cube" was a badass name and lots of cheesy dated drum tracks. Nope, can't fuck with that! The knowledge he imparts has something to do with how he's a badass and some people are pussie niggas and some women are bitches. And damn that shit is DOPE! I am impressed with Ice Cube's ability to rhyme "product" with "narcotics." I already feel like I've been listening for an hour, but really it's been 3 minutes, and there's still 57 to go.

The Streets - A Grand Don't Come For Free (2004)

It's all too clear to me. Hip-hop and rap really do strive to destroy all music. A Grand Don't Come For Free opens with bombastic brass orchestration which is hacked up and pasted together to fit the song's beat. The editor must have been using a cassette tape and a pair of scissors to do such a shitty job pasting this together. It only took 5 seconds for this album to send me off into another angry rant.
