This album is about as raw and rocking as I've ever heard Aerosmith. That may sound weird to anyone who grew up in the 70s, but let's remember the Aerosmith I came of age with... never mind, let's not and focus on this very solid album. Joe Perry and Brad Whitford are an impressive guitar duo and Steven Tyler as of this recording had yet to become a caricature of himself. My problem is the rhythm section, Joey Kramer on drums and Tom Hamilton on bass, is pretty dull. I have this problem with most hard rock bands, like Deep Purple and Black Sabath- terrific sound and pretty hard rock, but the arrangements are always lacking because the supporting players are uninspiring. Not much else. If you know the Aerosmith sound you know what to expect. Plenty of blues-based heavy guitar mixed with shrieky vocals spouting sex and drug-soaked lyrics. 3 stars.
