Here in my car! I feel safest of all! I can lock all my doors! It's the only way to live! If you've heard that song you understand all that The Pleasure Principal has to offer. There's lots of 80s synth weirdness and some guy with an unremarkable triple-tracked voice saying weird stuff in a pattern that sorta sounds like singing. At the very least the drum tracks are not played on a drum machine. What I can't stand about a lot of these 80s albums is the sound is too repetative. Every song is driven by that synthy string sound without any variance.
I know, I know... If an album or a band didn't have a consistent sound what would be the point? But if every song sounds exactly the same what's the point of making different songs? Other than that "Cars" song there's nothing memorable about this album. In fact when it was over I was stunned. I thought, "Really? That's it? Aren't there usually more than four songs to an album?" Turns out I had just forgotten about the other six songs I had heard. Ugh! 1 star.
