The album starts out with a nice blend of reggae-ish groove with soulful R&B. Pretty crunchy sound if a little busy. The "Dyno-MITE!" sound effects are really cheesy, and once again a rap artist is using their name in a song. There's nothing really remarkable about Ms. Dynamite. She can sing well but sounds like every other conventional female R&B singer from the last twenty years or so. Same with the music- standard beats, plain progressions, verse, chorus, verse, chorus, some guy in the background going, "UH!" and "Yeah." Occasionally someone will chime in with a sample of a fiddle or melodica or whatever to make it "artistic".
And this is my personal pet peeve, but since it's my review I get to complain. If your song has to have a chorus, the chorus really needs to be shorter than the main verses. If it's not, you're cheating. You're just stuffing your song with filler. Same thing if you repeat your chorus back-to-back with itself. I'm not even a big fan of a chorus in the first place, but when it's repeatedly shoved down my throat I just get pissed off. So I started this album off in a good mood, even after the first two songs I was feeling OK. Now here I am one hour later and there's just nothing. I don't get it. This kind of music is sooooo disposable, and it seems like dumptrucks full of it keep getting made. 1 star.
