T. Rex - Electric Warrior (1971)

(originally posted on Facebook)
Fun & trashy 70s glam rock. How I missed you. I like the 2 T. Rex albums I've heard thus far because it seems like they didn't take themselves too seriously. They're kinda like a less talented but laid back version of Queen. The major problem I have with T. Rex is most of their music feels like filler- easy songs they wrote in five minutes to fill up the album around songs they knew would be hits. This album contains the one T. Rex song everyone knows, "Get It On", and a bunch of songs with one- or two-note melodies with simple beats and identical sounds. There are some nice instrumental flourishes on the song "Girl" but every song has the same double-tracked vocals and the same distorted guitar. If you've heard "Get it On" (you have) then you know what 90% this album sounds like. Still T. Rex is a pretty fun band and Electric Warrior is worth a listen. 3 stars.
